Description

Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35MM F2 Leica M
USED Mint Boxed w Lens Caps
  Optional LH-13 Lens Hood
The new 35mm APO-Lanthar VM mount has the highest resolution and highest color correction of all Voigtlander 35mm VM lenses, optimized for both full frame VM digital or film cameras.  As Voigtländer’s best performing VM 35mm wide angle lens ever, the new 35mm APO-Lanthar continues the high performance standard of Voigtlander’s VM 50mm f2 APO-Lanthar.    Lens design includes apochromatic color correction, floating lens elements for better close focusing performance, two double sided aspherical elements,  five abnormal partial dispersion elements and superior multi-coating for outstanding flare control.    Optical performance is quite simply extraordinary.

Beautiful bokeh is enhanced with “circular bokeh” from the round apertures produced at F2, F2.8, F5.6 and F16 -- best for capturing point light sources.   The versatile VM mount easily adapts to other popular lens mounts via Voigtlander close focus VM mount adapters to Sony E, Fuji FX-mount and Nikon Z-mount cameras.

Superb Value
I have all the Leica Summilux M lenses and wanted to try a 35mm APO lens. I love clinical sharpness in some cases. Yes, stopped down the Summilux line is plenty sharp, but there are times when wide open is desired - background separation and bokeh being primary examples.

At the time, I couldn't find a Leica 35mm APO M, so opted for the Voigtlander to dip my toe in the medium wide APO category. I have to say the lens is quite special. It's good enough that I don't plan on spending $9k for the Leica APO now. I tried a loaner Leica 35 APO and they are extremely close in performance.

Wide open the lens is very sharp (yes, I know, overused and overhyped quality) but what makes it really good is the evenness of the sharpness across the frame. There is vignetting, but I actually like that many times. When I don't it's easy to correct.

Ultimately the VM might not be QUITE as good as the Leica and is heavier and larger. But, it's so close in optical performance that I don't think the Leica is worth 10x the price of the Voigtlander. Just a wonderful lens at a great price (and it's better IMO than the Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZM as well). If it was only 6-bit coded....
